About US

FEMchess is a youth-led 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and UCSF affiliate that aims to bridge the chess gender gap by teaching young females about the game in an empowering and competitive environment.  Only about one in seventeen players are women, and our goal is to change that.  Through our extensive curriculum designed by well-known chess players, students will master the art of chess by the end of our program. We are run entirely by unpaid volunteers who coach ambitious girls in the art of chess. Our coaches are hand picked experienced chess players who have an intense passion for chess and are eager to share their knowledge with their students. We value high quality service and have picked a strong management team to address all of your needs in a timely manner. You can check out our panel of coaches and our management team under the "About" tab. Our classes will be held virtually as we value our students' and staff's safety during this pandemic. Although virtual, we aim to offer a variety of experiences, such as different types of tournaments, workshops, events, and high quality coaching at no cost. If you have any further questions, all contact information will be under our FAQ page! If you like our mission, please share us with your friends and family! Follow our Instagram and Facebook for further updates and join our mailing list for information regarding registration, tournaments, events, and more!
