About US

Established in 2020, FEMchess is a youth-led 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and UCSF affiliate that aims to bridge the chess gender gap by teaching young females about the game in an empowering and competitive environment.  Only about one in ten players are women, and our goal is to change that.  Through our extensive curriculum designed by FIDE titled chess players, students will master the art of chess by the end of our program. We are run entirely by unpaid volunteers who coach ambitious girls in the art of chess. Our coaches are hand picked experienced chess players who have an intense passion for chess and are eager to share their knowledge with their students. Our classes are held virtually over zoom. We aim to offer a variety of experiences, such as different types of tournaments, workshops, events, and high quality coaching at no cost.
